Gears of War 3 Horde Command Pack
I had assumed that since Epic had been talking about an upcoming piece of DLC expanding on the single player through the eyes of a popular character from the Gears novels that it would be the first that they release. Apparently I was wrong since they are going to be releasing the Horde Command Pack on November 1st. It will feature 3 new maps, Blood Drive, Rustlung and Azura, the maps are playable in both Horde & Beast modes but if you want to use them for multiplayer the matches must be privately hosted, which is weird but I assume means they aren’t really designed well for it. The pack will also include 3 new characters, 2 new weapon skins and some new upgrades. One cool new upgrade is the ability to turn decoys into bots that will help you battle the Locusts, which is great if you aren’t playing with a full team and need someone to watch your back. It will cost 800MSP or you can buy the season pass for 2400MSP and get this and all the other Gears 3 add-ons released within the next year.
Avengers Assemble!
The highly anticipated cross over movie The Avengers has had little pieces revealed, from the new costumes to set pics, bit by bit for a while now. However this past week something much bigger and way cooler was shown off – the trailer! One of my favourite parts in the trailer is a scene where Captain America & Iron man have a confrontation showing off a bit of the power struggle and lack of unity that the team will have to deal with throughout the film. I felt that the trailer seemed to focus on Iron Man the most which I felt was kind of weird because Captain America is the face of the Avengers and I feel he should be in charge and therefore the main character. I know that Iron Man is more popular with mass audiences because of the success the first one had as well as the fact that he has had two movies compared to Cap’s one but I don’t want them to change things up in order to appeal to those that aren’t familiar with the characters outside of the films.
Mass Effect’s Multiplayer
Last week I wrote about Mass Effect 3 getting a multiplayer component and it has now been revealed what said multiplayer will entail. The mode will pit you and up to three friends against 11 waves of enemies, sort of like a mini Horde mode. There is a big difference, however and that is the fact that playing this new mode will earn you things in the campaign. Apparently there will be side quests to perform around the level while killing enemies that will earn you something called “War Assets”. They are supposed to be used as some sort of currency in the “Galaxy at War” mode. They weren’t very specific but the way I see it is that it will be like the assassin recruits in AC: Brotherhood, with you using these resources to do side quests throughout the galaxy that you can’t participate in personally in order to help other planets and weaken forces so the campaign missions will be slightly easier. Also with so many different choices that could be made throughout the past two games they may have you send these “Assets” in an attempt to help allies that you made that others didn’t as opposed to writing actual interactions and voicing the characters with so many different outcomes to consider. Bioware has stated that they did this with an extra team that they had been building for sometime so it won’t diminish the single player. Apparently they have been wanting multiplayer for a while but only now does it seem right to include it.
Die Hard 5 release date and title
The new Die Hard movie will be title “A Good Day to Die Hard” and hit theatres on February 14th, 2013, also known as Valentine’s Day because when you think of romance you obviously think of John McClane. I love Die Hard but I wish they would just leave this series alone because I don’t believe they we do it justice. Do any of you have high hopes for this movie?
Halo Anniversary Kinect
Halo Anniversary will support Kinect and 343 Industries has unveiled what it will be using it for. Through voice commands you will be able to switch between the remastered and classic graphics, throw grenades and reload. There will also be a new feature in which you say the word “scan” when your reticule is on an object or enemy in order to update your new library and learn about all the different things in the Halo universe. Being able to switch the graphics with a word seems cool (despite the fact that it is simple to press “Back” the feature is still neat) but having people yelling “grenade” & “reload” while playing the campaign seems annoying. Not to mention the whole scanning and reading about stuff thing is only available on the Kinect which is not cool at all, although for those that want to learn all about you could just go to the Halo Wiki and read there, if studios start stripping features to get you to buy accessories I will be really pissed because I still don’t see the point in shelling out $150 to get a Kinect and if I buy a game I should have access to everything included with it.
Batman: Arkham City is nearly here!
I have written about this game for so many weeks now I can’t believe it is almost here. This is easily one of my most anticipated games of the year and I can’t wait to get in line shortly and bring this bad boy home. I really hope other studios start paying close attention to this game so that we can finally get superhero games that are worth playing. With all the hype that has been surrounding this game there is only one thing left to do besides playing it; get more hyped with the launch trailer!
