Weekly Wrap Up

Diablo 3 news
Diablo III is still lacking a release date but there is some interesting new news about it.  The game will have an auction site which will allow players to sell items to other players for in game cash as well as real world money.  The enemies and bosses in the game drop random items so if two people play through the game they could have many items that the other never came across.  This should add incentive to go to the auction house to get specific weapons and armour to help in your adventures.  When you wish to sell items for real money you will have to pay a small standardized fee to post them and another once it is sold.  Blizzard hopes that this will be a huge source of revenue especially in eastern markets.  Also in case you’re worried that your friends will take all of your loot and sell it to the highest bidder, you should know that when you find items they only appear on your screen.  So that cool sword that you found after you killed that monster isn’t visible to the other players in your party and vice versa which means everyone gets their own items, no jerks taking all the good stuff.

Batman Arkham City
Once again there is Arkham City news which is fine by me because the fact that the game is so loaded with cool things that they can constantly release new and interesting info just means that the game will be that much better.  This week there is the new bonus costume for Batman in which he appears in his old blue and grey costume that I’m sure we all remember.  I think it would be cool to play such a dark Batman game in a bright costume to contrast everyone else.  The second piece of news is that Batman will team-up with Bane at some point.  Now they didn’t say if Bane would come to rescue Batman or the other way around, or even who they would be fighting together but it sounds awesome.  I love all of the villains that are being included in this game and how Rocksteady is doing them all justice by giving them bigger roles and more of a personality rather than a quick boss fight and then tossing them aside like so many superhero games.

Gears of War the board game
That’s right Gears of War has been turned into a board game!  I used to love board games but it has been a long time since I was really into them so I find it weird how excited I am to get up to three of my friends together and play this game.  There are all types of different enemies, weapons, and missions as well as a cover system to make the game very different from any board game you might be used.  If you don’t think that this game is for you then you need to see the trailer because it will change your mind.

Nintendo in the dumps
Nintendo has fallen on some tough times this year, first the lack of excitement surrounding their reveal of the Wii U (which I think we can all agree was well deserved) and now they are reporting an expected 82% decrease in profits this year compared to last year.  Last year Nintendo managed to achieve an annual profit of $1.41 Billion and this year they estimate that they will make $257 Million.  While that is still a massive amount of profit it is an incredible down turn for Nintendo.  They say that it is because of price fluctuations with the Yen and that the 3DS hasn’t done as well as expected.  I say that while money instability can be an issue it wouldn’t have anywhere near this sort of affect on profits and the 3DS had an unbelievably successful launch.  What is really happening here in my opinion is that everyone with a family full of kids who doesn’t know anything about games and has considered buying the Wii has done so and since they don’t play games Nintendo isn’t moving software which is why it is better that Sony and Microsoft stuck with their fans and delivered hardcore gaming experiences that people want to play.  Also the 3DS had nothing good at launch even now they only have Ocarina of Time which is a remake of a game that all Zelda fans already have.  The suckers who don’t know jack have gotten Nintendo’s products and aren’t doing anything with them because there isn’t much out there of any quality and if there was they would be oblivious to it.  Now the long term affects of targeting non-gamers is starting to show in a big way which is why they need a new console to sucker peolpe again with a big flashy gimmick and Microsoft and Sony are fine with the 360 and PS3.  I mean to be fair they tried to horn in on that same market with Kinect and the Move but those consoles are still about the hardcore who Nintendo left behind after being destroyed by Sony and surpassed by newcomer Microsoft last generation.  I just wonder if everyone will flock to the Wii U and save Nintendo or will they have learned their lesson and wait to see if it is truly worth it.

Mass Effect 2 DLC on sale now
Xbox Live has finally posted last month’s player choice sale which was for Mass Effect 2 DLC.  Three of the four major add-ons are at half price, the other unfortunately is still full price but that brings the overall US price from $31 to $19.  I love Mass Effect 2 and I was waiting all month for this sale and have bought all of the DLC for it now.  If you haven’t played the game yet you should definitely go and get it.  Not convinced?  How about you read my review for more info?  Once that’s done you might want to check out the sale before it’s over.

First TV Season Review
I usually don’t plug my articles in my Weekly Wrap Ups in such a big way, you guys should know that I try to post two articles a week and check the time line to see if there is anything new.  However I just wanted to mention that I originally intended to just recommend shows (which was mentioned in my first articleas opposed to reviewing each season individually but I tried it out and felt that it would be better to add that new category to the site and I hope you all enjoy.  Thank you!

Batman: Arkham Knight Critique - Joker Story

The most compelling aspect of the story in “Batman: Arkham Knight” for me was Batman’s ongoing hallucinations of The Joker. I had heard...
