March is Silence
Konami’s HD versions of Silent Hill 2 & 3 were scheduled for release next week on January 24; however Konami now says that the collection will be delayed until March 6. The game will not only be in HD but will include new voice work and some added bonus missions. One week later on March 13 the latest instalment in the series, Silent Hill: Downpour, will land in stores. Then on March 27 to close out the month Konami will release Silent Hill: Book of Memories for the PS Vita. Book of Memories is a brand new game and is apparently multiplayer focused, which is a drastic change since Silent Hill has never had multiplayer in it before. It is very hard for survival horror games to include multiplayer without drastically lowering the fear factor and since Silent Hill is the king of fear they may have made a poor decision here, but only time will tell for sure. Also I must point out that all the above dates are American and that the unfortunately I do not have the European release dates.
Future Solider delayed from Mar 6-22
Another gaming delay pushes Ghost Recon: Future Solider for the 360 & PS3 from March 6 to May 22 in the US and May 24 in Europe. The PC version will be released at a “later date”, which we should all be used to from Ubisoft by now. The game will have a beta in April for the 360 & PS3, which will give fans a chance to check out the game, but I never really see the point in betas when they are so close to the release date. If they won’t be able to implement a large number of changes it’s more of a demo than a beta in my opinion.
Big RPG demos this month
Speaking of demos FFXIII-2 has a demo currently available on XBL & PSN. I’ve yet to play it yet but since the game comes out on Jan 31 you guys should check it out because this might be the first game of the year that’s worth your time and money. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has a demo out tomorrow so if you prefer western RPGs to Japanese ones you might like to spend your time checking out this game instead. One really cool thing about the demo is that by playing it you can unlock two special Reckoning themed items in Mass Effect 3. ME3’s demo, which should arrive around the end of this month, will return the favour by unlocking Mass Effect themed gear in Reckoning. Personally I think this is way better way to promote games than pre-order bonus and stuff like that since it is free to everyone (assuming they have an online account) and can be obtained even if you buy the game after launch. Plus it gets people to try out new games, which might expand their gaming horizon, so everybody wins. You can check out the unlockables in the trailer linked below.
