Weekly Wrap Up: May 1

Sony Smash Bros.
As a fan of Super Smash Bros. I’ve wanted a PlayStation and an Xbox adaptation of the series for a long time, so I could make more of my beloved gaming characters battle it out with friends or siblings.  While Microsoft still has no plans for something like this Sony will finally be making it!  The game is called PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and it is a clear rip-off of Smash Bros., which I am totally fine with as long as it plays just as well.  6 characters have been revealed so far: Kratos (God of War), Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal), Sly (Sly Cooper), Colonel Radec (Killzone 2), Fat Princess (Fat Princess) and Parappa the Rapper (Parappa the Rapper).  The stages will all be a blend of 2 separate series, like Sly Cooper & God of War, so that they are both familiar and new to fans.  I hope Sony is willing to go for a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 level of characters in this game because the list of awesome characters that have graced PlayStation over the years is huge!

More Halo news
Halo 4 will have a live action web-series released prior to the game in order to build up excitement and introduce new players to the series as well to try and renew Hollywood’s interest in making a Halo film.  The series will be 5 episodes long and release a new one each week.  The episodes are planned to be around 15min in length each and contain a larger budget than any of Microsoft’s previous live action campaigns, which excites me greatly because the live action Halo campaigns have always been great in my opinion, especially Halo 3’s.

Rayman Wii U
A trailer for Ubisoft’s latest entry in the Rayman series, which I guess means that Origins was successful, called Rayman Legends has had its Wii U trailer leaked.  The game will be available on other systems, presumably the 360, PS3 & PC, but this trailer only shows off the Wii U version.  It is a 2D side-scroller and supports 4-player co-op, just like Origins, but now it also has online play for mini games and probably co-op. Also the Wii U version has the exclusive ability to scan in objects in a similar fashion to Skylanders.  The demo shows some items that I assume you have to buy separately because Ubisoft sees how much money Activision is bringing in with this gimmick, but it is cool that they not at all subtly hinted that you will be able to scan in at least 1 Assassin’s Creed related item.  One issue I have is that some people are looking at this as an awesome feature that only the Wii U can provide, but Kinect, the Xbox 360 Vision Camera and the PlayStation Eye could all do this.  Plus these bonuses could be unlockable extras that are free and included on the disk, so while it is interactive and leaves room for cool additions down the line; it is in no way innovative or groundbreaking.  The trailer can be seen here:

More War begins before
A new God of War game has been announced for the PS3 titled, God of War: AscensionAscension marks the 3rd prequel in the series and this one is set the furthest back in the God of War chronology.  Not much has been revealed about the single player, but a huge announcement was made and that is the inclusion of multiplayer this time around.  The game will allow you to play as a “Champion of the Gods” and choose to honour Zeus, Hades, Poseidon or Ares in order to gain special weapons and abilities through ranking up.  Not sure if this will be a good move for the game since the last action game to include multiplayer where it didn’t seem needed was Ninja Gaiden 3, which apparently ended up needing a lot more attention devoted to single player.

Batman: Arkham Knight Critique - Joker Story

The most compelling aspect of the story in “Batman: Arkham Knight” for me was Batman’s ongoing hallucinations of The Joker. I had heard...
