E3
is almost here and there will no doubt be a ton of great games shown off and
revealed at gaming’s biggest trade show. These are the seven games that I want
to see the most at E3. They aren’t on
the list because I think they will be the best games present at E3, but because they are the ones that I
am most egger to find out more about and to see in action.
RYSE
At
E3 2010 Codename: Kingdoms was announced as an upcoming exclusive for the Xbox 360. At E3 2011 it was revealed that the game’s real name was RYSE, that it was set in an ancient city
like Rome and that it was a Kinect
game. We haven’t seen anything of the game since, but Microsoft has recently announced that the game is still in
development, now as and Xbox One
title. They also stated that the game is no longer to be controlled entirely by
Kinect, as it now uses the controller
for primary control and has the Kinect
work in an assist capacity. I’m glad that Microsoft
is learning that Kinect can work well
when it is simply there to add something to the experience as opposed to being
the experience.
Destiny
I love Halo, so whatever Bungie
was going to do next following their departure from the series was something I
would be interested in and watch closely. The game looks really cool and they
seem to have a lot of interesting ideas like a Journey-esque matchmaking system that matches you up with other
players as you go along to either cooperate with, or abandon. I really want to
see what the game looks like in combat and how the different enemy types
behave. I love the shooting mechanics and AI
behaviour in the Halo games, so
hopefully Destiny can live up to the
high bar that Bungie set previously.
Quantum
Break
We just learned of this new IP from Alan Wake developer Remedy during the Xbox One
reveal on May 21st. That being said the concept loosely shown off in
the trailer and the fact that this is coming from the guys who made Alan Wake are enough to peek my
interests. Hopefully we will get to see some gameplay footage, so I can tell if
I have put my hopes in the right place. A release date would also be nice,
preferably the same as the launch day for Xbox
One.
Final
Fantasy Versus XIII/Final Fantasy 15
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced
as a PS3 exclusive back in 2006. It’s
a Final Fantasy game with a real time
combat system that is supposed to be similar to that of Kingdom Hearts. The game is being made by the team that is supposed
to make Kingdom Hearts 3, so before
that game can even start development Versus
XIII needs to be finished. There is the possibility that the delays have
either been to bring the game to Xbox,
to the PS4 or possibly to both. With
this game having taken so long and it not having the clearest name, as despite
having Versus in the name it is not a
fighting game like Dissidia Final Fantasy,
it is possible that the next gen Final
Fantasy announcement at E3 is
that Final Fantasy XIII has been
renamed and is now Final Fantasy XV.
Metal Gear 5
The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes
Of
all the games that we know will be at E3
Metal Gear Solid 5 might have my highest level of expectations heaped upon
it. I loved MGS4 and if MGS5 is anywhere near as good I will
most definitely be satisfied. Unfortunately, I still don’t fully understand how
MGS5 has been designed. It is
comprised of 2 separate games: Metal
Gears Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal
Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The story starts off in Ground Zeroes and picks up 9 years later
in The Phantom Pain. Now this might
mean that Ground Zeroes will be a
downloadable prequel leading into the main game of The Phantom Pain. However, it might also mean that we will have two
full priced games released months or even a year a part, or that they will both
be budget priced at say $40 each. We really have no idea at this point, so I
really want to hear more about the game(s) at E3.
Tom Clancy’s
Rainbow Six: Patriots
Back in November of 2011 Ubisoft revealed an incredible video of
target gameplay footage for their upcoming project Rainbow Six: Patriots, scheduled for release in 2013. They released
the target footage because they believed that something would be leaked and
they wanted to get out of head that. A month later they released a CG trailer
at the Spike Video Game Awards and
since then we haven’t seen a thing from the game. It is now the game’s projected
release year of 2013, so I hope we get to see Rainbow Six: Patriots as a next gen title that actually looks and
plays like their target footage indicated it could.
DeepDown
The
only game from either Sony’s or Microsoft’s initial press conferences
that really looked next gen was, unfortunately, not showing off real gameplay,
but was showing supposedly in-engine footage. This game was Capcom’s newest IP, Deep Down. It sort of has a Demon/Dark
Souls vibe to it, but hopefully I enjoy this game more than those. I find
that Capcom tends to go a long way to
putting gameplay first and I hope that Deep
Down will be another fun experience from the company that just also happens
to look gorgeous and really showcases what the new hardware can do graphically.
