Weekly Wrap Up: Aug. 14

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale delayed
After starting up their beta, PlayStation All-Stars has been delayed in order to making changes based on player feedback.  I kind of wonder, since I didn’t play it, if there were a surprising amount of flaws and ways to improve the game pointed out by fans, since typically games have the beta period put in expecting to take feedback into account and make changes thus they should have been prepared for any extra work and have had that scheduled in so that they didn’t need to delay the launch.  The game was supposed to come out on Oct 23 and will now launch on Nov 20.  I just want to point out that the previous launch date sounds like a much better place to be.  Oct 23 is a week before AC3, now they have to wait till after AC3, Halo 4 and Black Ops 2, which might be the 3 biggest games of the year all in back to back weeks.  I wonder if the audiences are different enough to make this a non-issue or if the fact that everyone will have spent their money right before the games launch will lower its sales.

Catwoman comes to Injustice
The new DC fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, by NetherRealm studios has released another character trailer showing off a new fighter.  Unlike the last character trailer, which showed off Nightwing and Cyborg, this trailer only reveals one new character.  Luckily they chose a really awesome character, CatwomanCatwoman is yet another awesome addition to the list of fighters and I can’t wait to see more.  Also, good on NetherRealm for realising how awesome Batman and his cast of characters are, since half of the characters so far are from his series.  Don’t get me wrong I like a number of DC heroes and their villains but Batman is the best and so are the characters most closely associated with him.  Speaking of which, it is also impressive that they managed to hold back and not just jump out at its initial announcement with the reveal of the Joker.

Halo 4 UNSC Weapons Trailer
The latest Halo 4 trailer shows off the old and new human weapons that will be available in the game.  The guns shown are: the Assault Rifle, Magnum, Battle Rifle, DMR, Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifle, Sticky Detonator, Saw, Spartan Laser and Railgun.  It is surprising that both the BR & DMR are in the game since they serve the same function and the DMR was Reach’s replacement to Halo 2&3’s BR.  As for the new guns I don’t like that they called the gun the “Sticky Detonator” since a “sticky” is what everyone refers to Plasma Grenades as and this gun has nothing to do with those, but that being said it still looks like a cool gun.  I’m not sure about the Saw since it seems like simply a more powerful Assault rifle, which isn’t very inventive.  Lastly the Railgun sounds interesting and fits with the tech in the games, it is also interesting that it seems like it would be more likely to have been a Covenant weapon what with the fact that it doesn’t use bullets and will have to charge up.  I can’t wait to see what other new guns will be available and to finally get to try them out when the game releases on Nov 6.

Dishonored gets creative
I’m not the most excited person in the world about Dishonored.  The game from Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda has been getting a lot of hype and while I have liked what I’ve seen so far I haven’t been blown away.  This trailer might be the closest they’ve come yet though.  The trailer focuses on how you can combine your powers in order to come up with awesome and, as indicated by its title, creative kills.  From the trailer your character seems overpowered but I know that there is a bar that limits the amount of magic you can use so that you can’t be doing all these moves constantly.  Even though the game looks like fun and will definitely have some interesting moments I still feel like I’ve yet to see something that makes me feel compelled to play through the game.  Hopefully the story is that thing but so far I don’t know.  Also after getting a bunch of Hollywood talent like Susan Sarandon to do the voice overs I hope it is well written and has some compelling characters, otherwise that was a massive waste of cash.

Bioshock Infinite staff changes
Two fairly large members of Bioshock Infinite’s development team have left its development studio, Irrational Games.  The first is Director of Product Development Tim Gerritsen who joined the company about 4 years ago and the second is Art Director Nate Wells who had been with the company for 13 out of its 15 years of existence.  Luckily for Nate Wells he is now working at Naughty Dog on yet another highly anticipated upcoming game, The Last of US.  In other employee news at Irrational: Rod Fergusson from Epic Studios has left in order to join Irrational and will begin working on Bioshock Infinite.  It is interesting that two people with significant positions would leave before the project they are working on, which is going to be huge and isn’t far from being finished, ships.  Wells clearly had a position lined up but there is no word on what Gerritsen is doing yet, which makes me think that is was creative differences that drove him to leave and thus makes me concerned about the game.  I’m also shocked that Fergusson would leave a company as successful as Epic.

Batman: Arkham Knight Critique - Joker Story

The most compelling aspect of the story in “Batman: Arkham Knight” for me was Batman’s ongoing hallucinations of The Joker. I had heard...
