Weekly Wrap Up: Mar. 12

Sorcery NA release date
The PS Move exclusive meant to get hardcore gamers interested in the device finally has a release date, although unfortunately only for those in North America.  On May 22 some of us will get to find out if there is any hope for Sony’s attempt to make motion control applicable to serious games.  Hopefully the game will be good but I’m very apprehensive about motion controls.  I think it should be used to add something to the experience of a traditional controller as opposed to being the main gameplay component.

Dead or Alive 5 gets Virtua
DOA5 will be hitting store shelves sometime in September and will include Virtua Fighter’s Akira Yuki as a playable character.  While I would rather play as a Spartan like in DOA4 it is interesting to see these two franchises partnering.  It probably has a lot to do with Capcom & Namco getting together for Street Fighter X Tekken and the eventual release of Tekken X Street Fighter.  What I want to know is if everyone pushes to crossovers how will they ever return to the original series, won’t it feel like something is missing?

Peter Molyneux leaves Lionhead
Peter Molyneux co-founder of Lionhead Studios has left his company to form a new studio called 22 Cans.  I don’t get the name but that isn’t really important.  He will continue to work on Lionhead’s next game Fable: The Journey as a consultant.  It is a pretty big surprise to see him leave his own company especially while Fable: The Journey is still in development, since he has been publicising and showcasing the game ever since its announcement at E3 2011.

Kara
Kara is the name of the amazing short film/tech demo that Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream made showing off their new engine and motion capture technology.  The footage is rendered in real-time and while it is only 7 minutes it is quite emotional.  Quantic Dream has said that this tech will be used on their next game but they haven’t confirmed Kara to be anything more than what it is now.  I for one would love to see Quantic Dream turn this into a game, while a robot gaining consciousness isn’t anything new I think they have the potential to do something really interesting with it.

Diablo 3 good news and bad
Good News: Blizzard has announced that Diablo 3 is nearly done.  Bad News: The Player vs. Player mode will not be included in the game at launch because after about a decade that system is not up to their standards.  So fans that are looking forward to this mode will have to wait for some time after its release for a patch, which will include the whole PVP system.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter
The latest game in the Medal of Honor series debuted with its announcement trailer.  The trailer didn’t really give a whole lot of detail, just that there are soldiers who infiltrate enemy bases and shoot bad guys.  Also there were some explosions.  I’m so tired of the modern warfare genre and I mean that both in the sense of military shooters set in modern times & shooters that trade depth of story for explosions.  The site tries to describe it as something more where your character will be fighting around the world for the sake of his family but hopping all around the world just makes plots convoluted and appears to me like they just want specific set-pieces or scenarios.  Also if there was any originality in the game wouldn’t they have had a better name for it than Warfighter?  Just saying.  The game will be released on October 23.

Batman: Arkham Knight Critique - Joker Story

The most compelling aspect of the story in “Batman: Arkham Knight” for me was Batman’s ongoing hallucinations of The Joker. I had heard...
