Weekly Wrap Up: Apr. 10

Secret World pre-order bonuses
Pre-ordering Funcom’s latest MMO, The Secret World, will get you a bunch of bonuses. You will get access to all beta weekends, which starts on May 11th, with the ability to carry over characters to every subsequent event, early access to the game starting four days before launch, an in-game exclusive item that increases the amount of XP gained, an in-game t-shirt with a unique monster design on it, a head start on character naming before the game starts and a pet to support you in combat.  You can step into The Secret World on June 19th only on PCs.

Skullgirls is out.
The colorful and quite promising looking downloadable fighting game came out on the PSN today and will be coming to XBLA tomorrow.  The developers have put a lot of time in to not just the look but the animations and the combat so that it looks entertaining and handles really well, hopefully it paid off.

Pokémon Conquest coming overseas
Pokémon Conquest, also known as Pokémon x Nobunaga's Ambition in Japan, is a Strategy-RPG crossover of Dynasty Warriors and Pokémon for the DS.  If this is the first time you are hearing about this I’ll let that sink in for a moment…good so the game already came out in Japan and now will come to NA on June 18th.

Kingdom Hearts 3D NA release date
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is the latest in the long line of handheld Kingdom Hearts games that make the story more and more convoluted and hard to follow along with increasing my wait time for Kingdom Hearts 3 and will be coming to NA on July 31 exclusively for the 3DS.  I don’t even care what the story for this game is; there are way too many handheld Kingdom Hearts. Why can’t I just get Kingdom Hearts 3? Is that so much to ask for?  It even has a 3 in the title it’s like they’re taunting me!

Sonic creator joins Nintendo
Hirokazu Yasuhara one of the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog has been hired by Nintendo and will work at the Nintendo of America branch in Washington.  Fun digression: it turns out he has also worked for Naughty Dog on the Jak and Uncharted series. Sad/weird digression: between Uncharted 2 & 3 he worked on Pac-Man Party for the Wii.  Let’s hope he makes something better for Nintendo this time, okay?  Also I would love to see one of Sonic’s creators work with Miyamoto, who wants to focus on smaller more original projects, and come up with something amazing, so make it happen Nintendo.

ME3 extended cut this summer
Bioware has decided to develop and release a free add-on this summer for Mass Effect 3.  It is meant to add extra cut scenes and more dialogue to the game’s ending in an attempt to satisfy the fans who were incredibly upset with the games original ending.  I am still playing Mass Effect 3 so I have no comments about the ending but while I am glad that they are not changing the ending, because that would be a devastating blow to artistic integrity, I am concerned about the fact that they are doing this.  If they had to rush the ending to get it out in time then it makes since, but if that was the case I would assume that they would have already been working on this instead of being pressured into it by fans.  If they are happy with the ending and don’t want to change it they should be allowed to stick to their artistic integrity and leave it and let fans complain.  This medium can’t be the true art form that it is if people demand changes to the artist’s work in order to satisfy their desires.  I mean that is even worse than George Lucas changing Star Wars because at least he owns and made Star Wars, these are just fans who wanted something different.  Everyone wants something different.  Once again I haven’t seen the ending so I’m just writing what comes to mind right now, haven’t chosen any sort of definitive stance.

Batman: Arkham Knight Critique - Joker Story

The most compelling aspect of the story in “Batman: Arkham Knight” for me was Batman’s ongoing hallucinations of The Joker. I had heard...
